We are Gaspard and Javi, two “cycling pirates” that now and then get 3 months off from work to cycle the world in an autonomous, adventurous style.
This series of videos give a taste of our 2023 adventure crossing Africa from East to West. This video shows our cycling journey through Tanzania, our starting point, covering 624 kilometers of varied and beautiful terrain.
We started our adventure in Dar es Salaam, with stops in Morogoro, Doma, and Mikumi National Park, where we combined cycling among wildlife and heavy truck traffic.
This heavy traffic made us deviate from the main road going to Zambia, towards Mangula and then Ifakara, where we took the TAZARA train to get out of the Kilombero Vgalley to Makambako. This local train was an unreal experience!
We then detoured through the Kitulo Mountains, where we hit 0º Temperatures and high elevations up to 2’600m., before concluding the Tanzanian chapter in Tukuyu and moving into Malawi.
Through Tanzania, we re-learned the ropes of long-distance cycling, including first technical issues, met Masai people and lots of locals, and managed to get out of the beaten track, being often the only travellers around (particularly in the Kilombero Valley).
