We are Gaspard and Javi, two “cycling pirates” that now and then get 3 months off from work to cycle the world in an autonomous, adventurous style. This series of videos give a taste of our 2023 adventure crossing Africa from East to West.
This video captures our cycling journey through Malawi, covering 940 kilometers of diverse and captivating terrain.
We began our adventure in Tukuyu and traveled through a series of memorable stops, including Karonga, and Mibanga. The route took us to Kaperekezi gate before going through the stunning Nyika National Park, where we experienced the rugged beauty of the highlands.
A standout feature of our journey was the reggae vibe we encountered along Lake Malawi. The tranquil lakeside atmosphere provided a refreshing contrast to some of the more challenging aspects of the trip. The hardest stretch of our adventure was the “shortcut” from Karonga to Mzuzu (through Nyika ), which proved to be the toughest terrain we’ve ever tackled. Adding to the challenge, we faced a particularly remote segment of the route where we went six days without access to food.
In addition to the demanding roads, we were captivated by the beauty of Chelinda and the surrounding areas. Our route also included stops at Nkhata Bay and Mzuzu before we continued to Raiply, Boni, and finally arrived to Santhe.
This journey tested our resilience with its tough conditions and remote stretches but also rewarded us with unforgettable experiences, amazing welcoming people and breathtaking views.
